#TheFrontStepsProject

It was so nice to take photos a family I have known for a very long time from the musical theater world, Jay, Robin, and Mia Blackman. They are such a sweet, kind, and thoughtful family and always full of smiles!

I spoke with Mia for a little while before taking their photos. Mia is a high school senior and told me how relieved she was that she had already finished her musical theater auditions before this pandemic. More recently, I was so thrilled to see on Facebook that Mia got into NYU’s Tisch School of Arts! Knowing that the schools colors are purple, I’m wondering if the matching tops in these photos were for good luck or just a coincidence? Please let me know what you think in the comments below!

Mia also sent me the following personal statement:

“The Blackmans are a family of artists. Whether it’s Jay crafting news stories to be aired internationally, Robin penning intricate and individualized lesson plans, or Mia developing a character onstage, the art we create makes an impact on viewers, students, and theatregoers everywhere. We thrive on busy schedules, and the hardest part about quarantine has been losing the carefully planned routines that allowed us to create and design. Once everything became virtual, all three of us were able to go back to editing, teaching, and performing. Coronavirus might have taken away life as we knew it, but it will never be able to prevent artists like us from working to make this world a better, brighter, and more unified place. #TheFrontStepsProject is working to do just that, and the Blackmans are honored to be a part of something so special. -Mia Blackman”

Mia this statement is beautiful, and I am so happy that you and your parents participated in #TheFrontStepsProject. I admire that you are a family of artists, and that you have found a way to virtually continue what you love to do. Thank you for allowing me to take your photos so that I could also continue doing what I love to do!!

And I want to send a special thank you to Jay, for thinking of me when NBC aired an international segment on photographers who were participating in the project all around the world. I was so touched that Jay thought of me and that two families that I photographed (the Steinberg family and Allie Gritz) were featured on the International news!!!

Thank you!

Erica
